Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Installs and maintains assigned information technology networks, hardware, software, and peripherals, including computers, laptops, tablets, phones, printers, scanners, audio/visual equipment, etc.: ensures availability and proper operation of products for installation; orders equipment; schedules installations; delivers equipment; converts old system data to new system; tests installed products per agency standards; and completes installations and conversions in timely manner and with minimal disruption to customer.
Supports system access: defines, recommends, implements and maintains enterprise server and work station components; defines security access levels; sets up accounting for new employees and closes accounts when no longer necessary; increases account capacity when existing blocks are insufficient for work requirements; establishes port connections for new equipment to network as needed; resolves network problems per established guidelines; limits user access to specific areas according to user needs; and documents procedures and changes on all systems.
Configures, operates and maintains networks, software, hardware, and/or other technology infrastructure: manages and configures servers to maintain updates; backs up, monitors, and analyzes event logs; identifies potential problems; monitors performance and security; checks and maintains connectivity; upgrades servers and monitors temperature in server room; adds/deletes computers to/from network; manages user and email accounts and passwords; monitors network settings, network software, and drivers; and maintains databases and a variety of server software.
Provides technical support and training to system users: receives and responds to requests for data and information; conducts research; troubleshoots problems with networks, software, hardware, and peripherals, and related systems and recommends solutions; escalates issues to supervisor and/or vendor, as needed; trains end-users; logs work tickets; coordinates with other department staff and vendors regarding problem resolution, as needed and utilizes diagnostic tools and other resources as appropriate.
Supports development and implementation of new technology: researches and evaluates computer systems, software, and technology issues; identifies technology solutions; recommends technology business strategies; evaluates information systems and communications requests; and works with vendors to implement new, and upgrade existing, technology.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of City information technology systems and utilization: maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions to remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in information technology.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: prepares, completes, receives, reviews, processes, forwards, or retains, as appropriate, various forms, reports, correspondence, invoices, usage reports, personnel status, purchase orders, knowledge base documents, network diagrams, phone tree, upgrade reports, replacement log, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Communicates with supervisor, other City employees, vendors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, receive/give advice and direction, or resolve problems.
Operates a variety of equipment and tools as necessary to complete essential functions: operates a motor vehicle, network components, audio/visual equipment, hand and power tools, and other equipment; operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment.
