Position Summary

The Director of IT Infrastructure provides strategic, operational, and people leadership for IT services supporting the academic and administrative functions of the College. This role advances Vaughn College’s mission by ensuring reliable, secure, and innovative technology that elevates teaching, learning, institutional operations, and the student experience. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Business Services (CFO),the Director of IT Infrastructure serves as a trusted partner to academic leadership, administrative departments, faculty, and students, and oversees IT infrastructure, enterprise systems, academic technology, cybersecurity, vendor relationships, and the internal IT team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Integrated Technology Operations, Systems and Security

  • Oversee the design, reliability, and performance of the College’s IT infrastructure, including networks, cloud services, servers, and identity and access management.

  • Ensure secure, scalable, and highly available academic and administrative technology environments.

  • Lead cybersecurity strategy, including risk management, data protection, compliance with higher education regulatory standards, and incident response.

  • Manage and support enterprise applications—including the Student Information System (SIS), administrative platforms (e.g., accounting and HR), academic tools, and integrations—to ensure stability, usability, and continuous improvement.

  • Direct system lifecycle planning, upgrades, and optimization efforts to support institutional effectiveness.

  • Support data governance, reporting, and analytics to enable informed academic and administrative decision making.

  • Maintain operational standards, policies, service level objectives, and performance indicators across all IT systems and services ensuring overall excellence in IT operations.

  • Manage performance and accountability of the external Managed Service Provider (MSP) delivering core IT services.

Academic Technology and Student Experience

  • Partner with faculty and academic leadership to support instructional technology, learning management systems, classroom technology, and research tools.

  • Ensure technology solutions enhance teaching effectiveness, student engagement, accessibility, and learning outcomes.

  • Support student-facing systems with a focus on usability, performance, and equitable access to technology resources.

  • Proactively engage faculty and students in collaborative planning and feedback processes to inform decisions related to academic systems, instructional technology, and student-facing software platforms.

  • Coordinate the evaluation, selection, and implementation of academic and student-support software by aligning pedagogical goals, user experience, and technical feasibility.

Vendor Financial Management

  • Manage vendor relationships, including service evaluation, and contract negotiations.

  • Oversee IT budgeting, capital planning, and procurement to ensure responsible stewardship of institutional resources.

  • Recommend and assess new technologies that balance innovation, cost-effectiveness, and institutional needs.

Leadership, Culture, and Communication

  • Lead, mentor, and develop IT staff, including supervision, performance management, and professional growth.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, customer service, and continuous improvement within the IT organization.

  • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and leadership regarding technology initiatives, changes, and expectations.

  • Build strong partnerships across the College to ensure IT initiatives are aligned with academic and operational needs.

  • Apply project management best practices to guide collaborative technology initiatives, ensuring disciplined execution, clear ownership, and effective cross-departmental coordination.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • 5years of progressive IT leadership experience, including infrastructure, applications, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, cloud services, and customer service.

  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills in complex, collaborative environments.

  • Outstanding interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working with MSPs and external technology vendors in a governance and oversight capacity.

  • Experience supporting academic,student-facing, or mission driven environments strongly preferred.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders, including faculty, students, and senior leadership.

  • Ability to communicate technology-related issues with stakeholders at all organizational levels, from end users to Senior Management.

  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse professional populations, foster inclusion, and promote equal access and treatment for groups traditionally under-represented in higher education.

  • Financial and budgeting acumen with experience managing IT investments and operational expenditures.

  • Experience in regulated or compliance driven environments, including higher education, is a plus.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems,or related field.

Salary and Benefits:

$100,000 - $120,000 for well-qualified individuals. Salary is determined based upon experience and education as well as internal equity.
