Data Science & Analytics
Description

Yum! is building an enterprise BI activation capability that sits between data engineering and business decision-making. As our BI Engineering Lead – Power BI, you will play a critical role in shaping how enterprise data is translated into trusted, performant, and reusable semantic models that power analytics across brands and business units.

This role is not a traditional dashboard developer or platform administrator. Instead, you will serve as the architectural authority for Power BI semantic models, ensuring performance, consistency, and governance while enabling scalable self-service analytics.

You will work closely with data engineering, governance, platform administration, and BI delivery teams to ensure that Power BI consumption aligns with enterprise data models and business definitions.

Responsibilities

Enterprise Semantic Modeling

  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI semantic models that support enterprise and brand-level analytics.
  • Adapt and extend enterprise data models for optimized Power BI consumption in collaboration with data engineering architects.
  • Establish modeling patterns that balance flexibility, performance, and governance.

Performance & Optimization

  • Own performance tuning of Power BI datasets, including:
    • DAX optimization
    • Model design tradeoffs
    • Storage mode strategies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance and scalability issues.

Standards & Governance

  • Partner with BI governance and data governance teams to ensure:
    • KPI definitions are documented, consistent, and auditable
    • Semantic models align to approved business definitions
  • Define and enforce modeling and calculation standards across Power BI solutions.
  • Review and approve complex or enterprise-impacting Power BI models built by others.

Consultative Partnership

  • Act as a technical consultant to the Platform Product Owner, helping translate platform capabilities into effective modeling strategies.
  • Partner with the BI Delivery Lead to ensure architectural designs are translated into scalable, high-quality execution.
  • Support BI engineers and analysts by:
    • Answering modeling and DAX questions
    • Providing architectural guidance
    • Establishing reusable templates and patterns
  • Advise BI leadership on modeling tradeoffs, risks, and technical constraints.

Project-Based Delivery

  • Lead the modeling work for high-impact BI initiatives.
  • Collaborate with BI Delivery Leads to ensure scalable implementation of approved patterns.
  • Focus primarily on project work, with platform administration handled by the Platform Product Owner.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • Deep expertise in Power BI, including:
    • Semantic modeling
    • DAX
    • Dataset optimization and performance tuning
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Dimensional modeling
    • Star/snowflake schemas
    • Enterprise analytics patterns
  • Experience collaborating with:
    • Data engineering teams
    • Data architects
    • Governance or data management functions
  • Strong consulting and communication skills — able to explain complex modeling decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with enterprise data platforms (lakehouse, data warehouse, Fabric, etc.).
  • Experience designing analytics solutions that serve multiple business units.
  • Prior experience in an enterprise BI standards or architecture role.
  • Power BI certification(s) a plus.
